Governor
Ted Kulongoski’s State of the State Press Conference
Eugene/Springfield
Welcome, Governor Kulongoski.
I have read your State of the State message about strong investments
in transportation, education, and health care, and I appreciate
your leadership regarding the challenges and opportunities
of global warming.
We are well aware of the crucial role of education and job
training for young people and our economy.
Access to health care affects our families and our employers.
I feel strongly that each person should have the right to basic
health care, and especially our children.
Governor, I am prepared to give you all my support for taking
these issues on, especially given our county’s impending
financial crisis.
I applaud your push for multi-nodal transportation solutions.
We are proud of LTD and the EmX, and justly concerned about
their capacity to rapidly move forward. We also have the West
Eugene Collaborative hard at work here dealing with congestion
and traffic solutions in West Eugene—this is a successful
collaborative model for others to emulate.
And my huge push here in Eugene has been for sustainable jobs
and practices that position our community well for the challenges
of finite resources and global warming. We already have Sequential
Fuel, the two largest solar arrays in Oregon, and other innovative
solutions.
We are your partners here, and we are with you for Oregon.
